Abstract
This 3-year project (starting January 2008) aims at constructing a modelling platform for the simulation of ecological systems at any spatial and temporal scale. It is based on the idea that ecosystems are complex systems organized in a hierarchy of nested sub-systems. This hierarchical view enables to represent landscapes, ecosystems and individual organisms using a unique set of computer program constructs inherited from recent advances in computer sciences.
