Abstract
This project advances undertaking of decision-making in management of resources in coupled human-environment systems by explaining pattern of rainfed agricultural systems, the processes of land degradation and impact of rural development program like watershed development projects initiated by various ministries of Govt. of India, NGOs, private organisations and external agencies at huge costs. The research focuses on development of computer model to evaluate agricultural sustainability at multi-scale in a dynamic monsoon dependant climatic region with interactions among individual farmers, rural society, urban economy, political structure and environmental systems that define sustainability of rainfed agriculture in the semi-arid sub-tropical region of peninsular India. This exercise combines GIS, remotely sensed data, DGPS, statistical package, soil and water analysis, socio-economic survey with in-depth interventions, field research and numerous spatial socio-economic and environmental datasets.
