Abstract

The project is developing, testing and refining the concept of an ecosystem framework, based on an ecosystem approach, into a workable methodology for Scottish conditions. It is taking place in 2 phases lasting 7 months each. Phase 1 is a) investigating the appropriate scope and scales for an ecosystem framework and b) developing an outline framework for a pilot area in North East Scotland. Phase 2 will develop the outline framework into a model ecosystem framework for the pilot area. The pilot area being considered is the North East Scotland including nested areas at three levels: Aberdeenshire (Level 1), the Dee Catchment (Level 2), and the Tarland Basin, Cairngorms National Park (within Aberdeenshire), and the Aberdeenshire coastal zone (Level 3).
