Abstract

The main objectives of this Ph.D. are: To examine the sustainability of mountain farming system by analyzing the soil nutrient balance at the farm household level; To analyze the impact of socio economic and institutional factors on soil nutrient balance; To assess the impact of alternative soil conservation and fertility management technologies on soil erosion, crop yield and soil nutrient status in long run, and; To assess the long term economic performances of alternative soil conservation and fertility management techniques from the farm household as well as societal perspective.
